Ravi - Short Film

Written, Directed & Shot by Darshan Gajjar

Ravi is my first short film as a writer-director, inspired by true events from my own experiences growing up as a British-born South Asian in Grantham, one of the least diverse towns in the UK. The story explores cultural identity, belonging, and the impact of racism in a predominantly white community—told through a personal and emotional lens.

This project was deeply personal to make, rooted in moments and feelings I experienced as an Indian kid in the UK. My goal was to create something honest that could spark conversation around culture, identity, and prejudice.

We premiered Ravi on 25 October 2024, to a fantastic reception—audiences connected with its themes and the film led to meaningful discussions about race, inclusion, and what it means to grow up between cultures. It also won the best film at the Ties That Bind Us Festival, leading it to also show at the UK Asian Film Festival at the BFI Southbank London.
